To date the majority of our clients instruct us to produce and negotiate settlement of bills in relation to Civil Litigation matters. Effectively our services are FREE; in accordance with the CPR Regulations our charges are incorporated in the bill as a disbursement, which is negotiated and paid by the insurer/paying party.

We produce a formal bill for Detailed Assessment on every single file, as we have found from experience that this is far more effective. The paying party is served with a fully particularised claim for costs from the outset and is therefore forced to justify any reduction imposed rather than slavishly seek a percentage reduction without justification. Our methodology has other advantages; if we are unable to reach settlement you are immediately in a position to commence assessment proceedings.

As well as preparing the bill we ECS Law Cost Drafting Services Limited also serve bills and negotiate settlement of the claim. The fee earner is then relieved of the time consuming process of cost negotiation ensuring that all time spent by the fee earner is charged to a billable ongoing action. No case is settled without the fee earner's prior authority.
